چکیده
Quantitation of fetal parameters by prenatal sonography enables the assessment of menstrual age and fetal development. Appropriate fetal growth can be surmised on the basis of sequential measurements, as well as the relative variation of parameters such as biparietal diameter (BPD), femur diaphysis length (FDL), abdominal circumference (AC 1, and head circumference (HC). Accurate determination of these quantities to within an acceptable range of measurement error is essential to ensure reproducibility of results and to document true growth patterns. Assuming images are acquired at appropriate anatomic levels, major sources of measurement error are related to

Scientific basis for standardization of fetal head measurements by ultrasound: a reproducibility study
OBJECTIVE To compare the standard methods for ultrasound measurement of fetal head circumference (HC) and biparietal diameter (BPD) (outer-to-outer (BPDoo) vs outer-to-inner (BPDoi) caliper placement), and compare acquisition of these measurements in transthalamic (TT) vs transventricular (TV) planes. METHODS This study utilized ultrasound images acquired from women participating in the Oxfor...
متن کاملTrapezium Bone Density—A Comparison of Measurements by DXA and CT
Bone density may influence the primary fixation of cementless implants, and poor bone density may increase the risk of implant failure. Before deciding on using total joint replacement as treatment in osteoarthritis of the trapeziometacarpal joint, it is valuable to determine the trapezium bone density. The aim of this study was to: (1) determine the correlation between measurements of bone min...
متن کاملCorrected formula for uncertainty in estimations of gestational age from fetal head circumference measurements.
Over recent years, numerous publications have proposed methods for estimating gestational age (GA) using fetal measurements, including biparietal diameter, head circumference (HC) and crown–rump length, among others. The paper by Altman and Chitty1 presented statistical modelling of data from 663 fetuses to produce charts and tables for pregnancy dating based upon such measures. The resulting o...
متن کاملQuality of ultrasound biometry obtained by local health workers in a refugee camp on the Thai–Burmese border
OBJECTIVE In a refugee camp on the Thai-Burmese border, accurate dating of pregnancy relies on ultrasound measurements obtained by locally trained health workers. The aim of this study was to substantiate the accuracy of fetal biometry measurements performed by locally trained health workers by comparing derived reference equations with those published for Asian and European hospitals. METHOD...
متن کاملUltrasound (in)accuracy: it's in the formulae not in the technique – assessment of accuracy of abdominal circumference measurement in term pregnancies
Introduction: Fetal abdominal circumference (AC) is utilised in calculations for the estimation of fetal weight (EFW) and has been proposed as a method of monitoring diabetic pregnancies. We evaluated true ultrasound accuracy by comparing fetal AC biometry with neonatal anthropometry and compared this with standard ultrasound estimations of fetal weight. Methods: A prospective observational stu...
